As a secondary school graduate, choosing the next step in your education may feel like a scary leap. Nothing to worry about: Pulsed Empower is here to support you. This inspiring, challenging program enables secondary school graduates to uncover their uniqueness and put it to satisfying use. Empower focuses on your wants, needs and abilities and helps you find the direction that fits you like a glove.

Empower is all about the strength of creating. The emphasis is on learning through experiencing, doing, sometimes failing, and starting all over to finally succeeding. That is why books are optional, not mandatory. Empower turns every day into an innovative field trip filled with technology, entrepreneurship, and creativity. At the same time, you stay socially connected with other students and lecturers.

Follow this minor if you want to step out of your comfort zone. I discovered that I have so many skills and a lot of creativity which I didn’t channelize during my major or in daily life.

What made you choose this minor?

I wanted to combine technology with journalism, and in my major, we don’t really learn much about technology. We lacked a bit of creativity too, so I was hoping to get that here.

Can you share the experience of your future solution?

I created a website on which I gathered content for a new learning system. The learning system of my major was quite old-school and lacked creativity and I wanted to do something completely different to spark things up. So, I created a video in 360 on which you can solve a problem using design thinking. The students from all majors could access to try and solve the problem that they viewed in it. The technology helped the student to be in the situation of the problem and take a more hands-on approach in solving it.

How did the minor help you further?

I founded a start-up along with a classmate while working on our major project on entrepreneurship and innovation. The idea was to continue building on my future solution and make it into something we could use in journalism. In the end, we created Redactie 360 - a small start-up that makes news videos! We want to bring the news to the people, so, you can actually “be with the news, in the situation”. We believe when the news has more depth and context, public really understands what’s going on and

empathises with it more.

Any future advice that you would like to share.

Follow the minor if you want to step out of your comfort zone. I realised that I have so many skills and a lot of creativity which I didn’t channelize during my major or in daily life. Entering the minor made me realise that I could do really cool stuff with the skills I already have. I think that is something that young people need sometimes to get motivated for their major or life, in general. This minor is a good starting point if you want to use all your skills and creativity into something really awesome.
