As a secondary school graduate, choosing the next step in your education may feel like a scary leap. Nothing to worry about: Pulsed Empower is here to support you. This inspiring, challenging program enables secondary school graduates to uncover their uniqueness and put it to satisfying use. Empower focuses on your wants, needs and abilities and helps you find the direction that fits you like a glove.

Empower is all about the strength of creating. The emphasis is on learning through experiencing, doing, sometimes failing, and starting all over to finally succeeding. That is why books are optional, not mandatory. Empower turns every day into an innovative field trip filled with technology, entrepreneurship, and creativity. At the same time, you stay socially connected with other students and lecturers.

IAI Industrial Systems in Veldhoven presented our Master Digital Technology Engineering students with an exciting challenge: develop an innovative proposal for their cutting-edge personalisation systems, ensuring the utmost privacy and security while collecting and analysing performance data. Adding to the thrill, the students had only one week to deliver. The outcome surpassed all expectations, leading IAI to offer internships and Master theses to our talented students based on their findings. Join us as we unravel how this challenge pushed our students to showcase their potential as future engineering professionals and uncover the incredible gains made through this collaboration.

IAI, known for supplying personalisation systems to over 35 countries, including some of the world's largest, places great importance on data security and privacy. With this in mind, IAI Program Manger Twan Haazen - in close alignment with our Pulsed Systems Engineering teacher Ralph Peters - challenged our students to develop a proposal to bring digital technology-based innovation to their systems while effectively addressing cybersecurity concerns. Hassan, one of our Master's students, summarises his experience: "In this challenge, I learned about working with stakeholders and the importance of handling personally identifiable information (PII) as sensitive data. Furthermore, it was interesting to find ways to achieve project objectives while respecting privacy matters."

The students' exceptional self-organisation and unwavering commitment impacted our collaborative partner. During the final presentation, the IAI experts posed challenging questions, and the students adeptly defended their ideas and proposals with professionalism and constructiveness.

Another student, Micaela, reflects on the challenge and reveals, "It was an intriguing mission. Although I faced uncertainty in an unfamiliar field, I discovered the immense value of our Master's program in shaping our minds to seek diverse solutions to the same problem." Collaborating with students from diverse backgrounds alleviated her apprehensions and strengthened the team's dynamics.

This collaboration between our students and IAI Industrial Systems exemplifies the gains achieved through the partnership between education and industry. We extend our profound gratitude to IAI Industrial for providing this invaluable experience, enabling our students to thrive and grow into accomplished professionals.
