Pulsed for Good Challenge: Embrace TEC supporting Amy Foundation

ENNL

As a secondary school graduate, choosing the next step in your education may feel like a scary leap. Nothing to worry about: Pulsed Empower is here to support you. This inspiring, challenging program enables secondary school graduates to uncover their uniqueness and put it to satisfying use. Empower focuses on your wants, needs and abilities and helps you find the direction that fits you like a glove.

Empower is all about the strength of creating. The emphasis is on learning through experiencing, doing, sometimes failing, and starting all over to finally succeeding. That is why books are optional, not mandatory. Empower turns every day into an innovative field trip filled with technology, entrepreneurship, and creativity. At the same time, you stay socially connected with other students and lecturers.

In the world of academia, students rarely get the opportunity to put their skills to the test and directly impact society. At Pulsed, we offer this opportunity to our minor students every semester, allowing them to utilize their unique talents and create a tangible impact on society. This opportunity is known as "Pulsed for Good." The mission this time? To support the Amy Foundation, an organisation dedicated to transforming the lives of underprivileged youth in Cape Town, South Africa.

The Amy Foundation, led by visionary Kevin Chaplin, is committed to creating brighter futures for young individuals through education, training, and mentorship. The challenge allowed Embrace TEC students to understand the foundation's mission and witness the real impact of their contributions.

A Multifaceted Approach:

One of the remarkable aspects of the Pulsed for Good challenge was that it allowed each student to leverage their unique talents and interests to contribute meaningfully to the Amy Foundation. Students were free to decide how they wanted to support the cause, resulting in diverse, creative, and impactful initiatives.

  • Empowering Creativity: Some students crafted board games, sparking creativity in young minds.
  • Building Possibilities: Others created a manual on making stackable chairs, a resource that could lead to job opportunities.
  • Digital Empowerment: Many students recorded and edited YouTube videos, sharing knowledge on website creation and entrepreneurship.
  • Fundraising Initiatives: Some students took on the challenge of raising funds. They participated in and organized triathlons, volleyball tournaments, and bottle drives, reaching out to sponsors and individuals, ultimately raising an impressive 1000 euros.

"From start to finish, it was a great collaboration between the Pulsed minor students and the students and employees at the Amy Foundation. The Amy Foundation invested a lot of time in this challenge, which fueled the high motivation of the minor students. I am impressed with the results," summarises Pulser Gert.

Trip to South Africa:

The highlight of this journey was when five of the Embrace TEC students traveled to South Africa to deliver the tangible results of their hard work directly to the Amy Foundation. Beyond this, they immersed themselves in the heart of the foundation's work. "Before the trip, I was nervous about travelling to South Africa. However, talking to students from the Amy Foundation and experiencing their politeness and positive mindset beforehand relieved my stress. Once we arrived I was happy to feel the same incredible politeness and positivity in person." a student Peter describes the collaboration with Amy Foundation.

"Working together with the Amy Foundation was truly one of my best experiences. It meant a lot to me to see how everything works over there. It was tough to witness some of the living conditions, but it was heartening to know that the work we did at Pulsed made a difference," minor student Hannah adds.

The students had the opportunity to experience firsthand the people the Amy Foundation helps and how they do it. They all agree that exchanging conversations and experiences with the local students felt meaningful for them. Ben, another student, reflected on their days in South Africa: "I gained insights into life in the townships and the daily challenges they face. Nevertheless, the students there always maintained a positive attitude. Witnessing that was unforgettable."

This incredible journey showcased the power of technology, entrepreneurship, and creativity combined with compassion and a strong will to make a difference. The Embrace TEC students not only contributed to the Amy Foundation's mission but also gained a deeper understanding of the world and themselves. Their dedication serves as a reminder that small actions can lead to monumental change and that education is not confined to the classroom but extends to the positive impact we can create beyond it.
